Amazing book possibilities arise when you fold a sheet of paper back and forth, creating an accordion! After discussing tips for crisp folding, we’ll create a basic accordion book and then move on to a flutter book (an accordion attached to a cover or wrapper), an accordion with sewn-in pages, and an accordion with pop-up features. While most of our time will involve creating the book structures, you will have opportunities to add content or unique embellishments.

Sharon A. Sharp creates artist’s books in both traditional and nontraditional forms, such as origami-like books, that offer a dynamic interplay between structure and content. Her imprint, Curious Pursuits Press, reflects Sharon’s wide-ranging interests and often playful approach to subjects. She has served as an artist-in-residence at Mammoth Cave National Park and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and her works have appeared in numerous local, regional, and national exhibitions. Her work is represented by Vamp & Tramp Booksellers, and one of her artist’s books is shown in 500 Handmade Books.

Sharon’s book artistry is rooted in her experiences at Penland School of Crafts, Paper & Book Intensive, the Garage Annex School, and numerous workshops. She is a member of the Guild of Book Workers, the Miniature Book Society, and the BookWorks Co-op.
