“Simple Elegance: Pamphlet-Stitched Book Variations”
1 day, $90 (lunch provided)

With simple, versatile hand-sewing techniques, students can create elegant “pamphlet-stitched” books—ideal for poetry chapbooks or small books combining artwork and writing, since they involve a single signature (a single group of nested pages sewn to a cover). After discussing basic bookmaking terms and key paper characteristics, students will prepare the pages and cover for their first blank book, then learn a stitching pattern for the binding. In the afternoon they will make another book, using a different pamphlet stitch. As time allows, other stitching variations will be discussed, and students will add unique touches to their book covers.  A materials list can be downloaded below.
